Juneau and Mom

So, where were we anyway? Oh yes, New Year’s Eve. Don’t be mad, but all I have time for right now is a quick update to let you know that Juneau was fantastic and mom is well.

I have a lot to work out before I will be back to my normal, un-normal postings. Can hardly stand to post without a photo, but I haven’t found the time to a) get wifi going on my laptop or b) use this computer (mom & dad’s) to do my photo downloads on. Love the little learning curves that life tosses now and then.

The good thing about the learning curves, is that I usually feel pretty good about mastering them. Even when it is a total accident that I manage to make it through to the other end, I still get to say, “YES! I did it!”

Just like my recent Craig’s List success. Pure luck. With so many sick and scary stories about CL, I feel extremely fortunate that mine turned out so well. Only a few days before my flight out from Seattle, to my layover in Juneau, I posted an ad for a driver. The reply from Brian sat in SPAM hell for a day before I found it, but once we connected all went well.

He sent me a photo of his driver’s license and a couple references and I fell into instant friendship with him and his partner, Kathy, after we talked on the phone for only a few minutes.  Brian picked me up from the airport and we spent the next few hours chasing the light:>)

With great advise from Kathy, we started with sights that needed daylight to appreciate them (the glacier), then we moved on to sights that were better after darkness fell (the spectacular lights in town). Photos soon!

The other half of this update is to let you know that mom’s hip surgery went well and she is expected to be home Monday. Sister Laura is with her this morning and brother Michael spent several hours with her yesterday. Dad took mom into the hospital in Anchorage at 5 a.m. yesterday and wasn’t home until after 9 p.m.

Now I have to confess that I haven’t been to the hospital to see mom yet. She’s fine with it, and insists that she wants to sleep and wants our help at home. Dad says she just wants to be alone to watch football:>) Anyway, my asthma was so bad and I was pretty wiped out from my whirlwind travels, that I have been here at their house the whole time.

Even if I went to hospital, they’d kick me out because of these asthma attacks. So, that’s where we stand. Dad & I hanging out and making things cozy and clean for mom’s return.

I can’t wait to get the photo issue dealt with, because I have so many cool things to show you. Stay tuned:>) Oh, and I promise to get back to the Mrs. M’s son and New Year’s Eve story:>)

Please help me set the universe back on track for a good 2014 for Luanne and her kitty. xo

Peace,

Patti

EDDD 3: Risk Driving Icy Roads In Pursuit of Happiness

A piece of frosty driftwood in the yard. I think this look means, BRRRR! PHALL PHOTO 2013

A piece of frosty driftwood in the yard. I think this look means, BRRRR!
PHALL PHOTO 2013

My horoscope: Tuesday, December 03, 2013 “Positive thinking increases our chances for success now that the high-spirited Sagittarius Moon reminds us that we can be the masters of our own destinies. We may overextend our reach because our self-confidence spurs us on to greater possibilities. Thankfully, a cooperative alignment between talkative Mercury and assertive Mars motivates us to speak clearly about our intentions. We’re inspired to take a risk in the pursuit of happiness.”

PHALL PHOTO 2013

My pursuit of happiness wasn’t really that big of a risk, but when I saw that we had our first overnight freeze, I knew I had to get my truck thawed and go take some photos! My tires only lost their grip on the icy pavement about 4 times. Just for a second. Then I channeled my Alaska family and I was fine. (Don’t tell my mom, she will hyperventilate.)
The sunrise cast everything in an orange glow, add the layers of frost, and it was a double dose of amazement. Did you really think I was going to write about writing? Or tell you some story? Nah, maybe when things aren’t as exciting outside. As if.

PHALL PHOTO 2013

The biggest thrill was seeing the huge rolling waves and the way the weird orange glow made the driftwood and dune grass look. I was so startled by the beauty and power, I was exclaiming out loud. Freak! So glad that the gull was the only one in hearing range. That could have been embarrassing. Hey, maybe that’s why he wouldn’t talk to me…the gull, the one I posted on facebook..I’m so lost!

Okay, the last photo. The ones above were taken at Half Moon Bay, where the surfers usually are. Wait until I show them what they missed! It may be worth risking human contact to take a slide show down to the Mermaid Deli. Nah, then I’d have to learn how to make a slide show:>{

And the last photo is at frosty Bonge Beach in Grayland.

Did you notice the weather thingy I put on the site? If you want to be cool like me (total sarcasm) click on mine and get your own weather thingy. (That’s a technical term)

Thanks for tolerating me:>)

EDDD 2; An Ominous Beginning, An Amazing End

This June evening cloud is not related to the post, except that it is from the same section of sky as seen from my porch. PHALL PHOTO 2013

This June evening cloud is not related to the post, except that it is from the same section of sky that I discuss, as seen from my porch.
PHALL PHOTO 2013

My horoscope: Monday, Dec 2, 2013 — “You want to accomplish a lot of work today, but you could underestimate the amount of effort required to meet your obligations. You’re up for the challenge … but you also might discover that you’re in over your head. If you suddenly realize that you over-committed your resources … be up front about your predicament and ask for assistance. You may be surprised at how quickly your real friends rush to your rescue.”

So, in rushed my WP “friend” with a writing challenge that focused on an incident that has been niggling at the back of my mind. The challenge: “Rather than giving into the urge to take a picture, write down your impressions of the scene … Using words only, take a snapshot of the experience.”

http://dailypost.wordpress.com/2013/12/02/weekly-writing-challenge-snapshots/#more-62002

A habit that I have developed, since I began living close to the beach, is that at sunset and sunrise I step out onto my porch and scan the sky for amazement.

One evening a few weeks ago I stepped out and scanned the sky. It was cold and raining and the sky was filled with billowing dark clouds. Still, I scanned for amazement. Defeated, I turned around to head back into my warm cave, when a spot of light caught my attention.

It was a small hole in the clouds, with the moon peaking through. The right half of the circle of light was outlined with rainbow colors. A Moon Dog? When it occurs during the day, this phenomena is called a Sun Dog, so wouldn’t a nighttime event be called a Moon Dog?

I had not come prepared, so I ran inside to grab my camera. The strap was involved in a massive tangle with a purse strap and a charging cord. I grew frustrated and was about to give up and close the door. At that moment I shouted out loud, “Are you crazy!?”

I took two steps, crossed the threshold, and stood on the porch (without my camera) to enjoy the last few moments of the evening’s amazement.

Peace,

Patti

Phoenix Rising; Dedicated to You

Phoenix Rising from the fire and ashes into the blue clarity.

PHOENIX
PHALL PHOTO 2013

Dedicated to all the Phoenixes in my life who are rising from the fire and ashes, into the clarity of blue sky. To Ionia, Marilyn and Belinda, especially, but also to some special guy friends who are fighting the dark clouds, some women-sisters who struggle with what life has thrown at them recently and all those in the midst of grief/depression/fear/angst and physical ailments.

Yesterday I finally forced myself to get to the beach and out of my cave. I had an incredible photographic journey that lifted my spirits. Even without the camera, it was spectacular…the kind of feeling that resonates in your center. It makes it that much better that I DID have the camera and can share these with you. I will upload the other photos on my phallphoto.wordpress.com site soon.

Please send reading photos of you, friends or family…new ones up tomorrow. Send to 1writeplacewordpress at gmail dot com.

Peace,

Patti

Writer’s Journal and New Photo Site and Anticipation

Anticipation! Blackberries Phall Photo 2013

Anticipation!
Blackberries–CLICK TO ENLARGE
Phall Photo 2013

I finally did what I said I would and created a site for my photos. It is still new and challenging, but I hope you like it, you can find it here.  You can borrow or print my photos, just let me know in the comment section and attach my site address to any photo you take. I hope you have fun watching me progress as I get more experience. Still adding a photo with most posts here.

Don’t tell anyone, because its not official yet, but I finished at Camp National Novel Writing Month! Don’t get too excited; I am still a long way from publishing. There is a lot more material to sort through, edit and edit again. Let’s not hold our breath on this one. Mom, it will happen, but great things take time:>)  (Said with much more confidence than I actually feel.)

I’m going to add a feature to my little home here and would like your help. I visit many blog sites each day to keep up with my new writing and photography friends, and I thought of something that would help new visitors.  I’m going to add a side bar feature for those who want to check out my site real quick, just to see if they want to follow it. I’ll call it something like,

“If You’re In A Hurry, Here’s the Best of Patti’s Site”

That’s why I need your help. Can  Will you take a few minutes and copy & paste, or just type a post title that you think best shows what I’m doing here? Or even your favorite post or page. Next to the title at the top of the main page, are “BIO” & such, and those are pages. So far, it looks like my bio and “Welcome to the Neighborhood” pages are the most popular. But you guys have been here awhile and know what would bring you back if you were new.

On a personal note (is anything personal these days? I mean, I saw my son in the hospital on Facebook!), yesterday my son swerved to avoid a head-on collision and ended up crashed into a river. He was alone and the car was totaled. Some passersby helped him get out and the ambulance was called. My daughter was near and rushed to his side and kept me informed. He is okay, as far as all the tests show. Banged up, a seat belt rash on his neck, a sore neck and back, but okay. It was a tense day, to say the least, which I will.

Stayed tuned for the next post…a fairy tale for bloggers/writers, but hopefully, amusing to the rest of you. I also owe you a new installment of the serialized memoir…also on its way.

Thanks for hanging in here with me—you are great! I think I have almost 600 followers and nearly 3000 hits. Not bad for the new girl on the block (who is clueless to how this all works).
